Trail Heads

After building my UI skills for two years at JobAdder, I decided to delve deeper into the UX space by participating in an in-person 5 day certification course from Boulder Digital Arts. Through a combination of lectures, user testing activities and building a mock app project I was able to translate what I learned into actionable solutions for my company’s clients worldwide.

This course gave me the confidence to conduct user interviews with our U.S. clients, the ability to guide my team towards integrating more solid UX fundamentals into our workflow and a greater understanding of how firm UX principles translate into delightful, accessible interface solutions.

“Trail Heads is an app designed to provide motivation for outdoor enthusiasts of all skill levels by allowing users to search for, record and catalog hiking trails worldwide.”

Step 1:  User Research/Personas

Conducted research to compile four distinct personas, each based on a combination of feedback from real potential users.

Step 2:  Whiteboarding/Drafting

UX/UI flow was drafted onto a whiteboard, finalized using card sorting, then drafted roughly onto paper. I chose to focus on completing the final design for only one part of the user flow, which included six steps.

Step 3:  Wireframes

Basic wireframes for the UX flow created in Sketch.

Step 4: Comps

Sample of mobile first-draft comps created in Sketch, including additional functionality within the original user flow.
